Rapides Regional Medical Center names new CNO

ALEXANDRIA, La., March 24 - Rapides Regional Medical Center welcomed Tina Coker, RN, MSN, as its new Chief Nursing Officer, effective March 23.

Coker comes to Alexandria from Covington, La., where she had served as the chief nursing officer of the 178-bed Lakeview Regional Medical Center since 2003.

“I am very passionate about nursing,” said Coker, who began her nursing career in 1978 in Houston, Texas. “I think people appreciate what nurses do because they often come along at a very vulnerable time in a person’s life. We take care of the whole person. It’s not an easy job. It is physically and mentally demanding.

“But through the years, even with all the changes that have occurred in healthcare, the one-on-one contact with the patient and nursing at the bedside remains. It is an integral part of what we do.”

Coker, who grew up in Texas, has spent most of her career in Houston, Texas, and Searcy, Ark. She has two adult children – a daughter, who is finishing her anesthesiology training and a son, who is a small business owner in Covington.

“I’m excited about being in Alexandria,” Coker said. “I enjoy change. And I am looking forward to becoming part of this community.”

Coker received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from University of Texas Nursing School in Galveston, her master’s degree in nursing from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Ark., and her master’s of business administration from Southeastern University in Hammond.
