One Day Prepared Childbirth Class

Taught by a certified childbirth instructor, prepares couples for the actual delivery. Topics include the stages of labor and delivery, when to go to the hospital, pain management, assisted delivery, Cesarean birth as well as a tour of Rapides Women's and Children's Hospital. For children expecting a little brother or sister. This free class helps children understand how important it is to be a big brother or sister and where mom is when baby is being born. The ideal age for this class is 3-10. Registration is required by calling 769-3106. The class is held in the Cascade Room at Rapides Women's and Children's Hospital.

One Day Breast Feeding Class

Cancer can rob a woman of her energy, appetite and strength, but it doesn't have to take away her self confidence. A free program led by a volunteer cosmetologist who teaches beauty techniques to female cancer patients in active therapy. To receive complimentary cosmetics, advance registration is required by calling 1-800-ACS-2345.

Diabetes Group Class

Free class for adults with newly diagnosed diabetes and those needing a refresher course in diabetes management. No physician referral is required. Safe Sitter Class

For boys and girls ages 11 to 13. Learn the basic skills you need to be a safe and successful babysitter. This medically-accurate, hands-on class teaches sitters how to entertain children and keep them safe, how to perform basic child care skills, how to call for emergency help, what to do when a child chokes, how to keep themselves safe and start a successful business. Bring a check or money order payable to AARP to cover the cost of the course and your AARP membership card to verify membership number. Follow the signs posted in the hospital.
