New surgery waiting room opened at Rapides Regional Medical Center
Families and friends of surgical patients at Rapides Regional Medical Center have a new waiting area as RRMC held a ribbon-cutting Thursday for its new surgery waiting room.
The new waiting area is centrally located across the main hallway from The Gift Shop at Rapides Regional Medical Center. The waiting room is 25 percent larger than the previous one, now featuring 1,120 square feet. It includes a break room with coffee, family consultation rooms and dictation rooms for surgeons and other healthcare professionals.
“One of the more stressful moments for families and friends inside a hospital is waiting during the surgery of a loved one,” said Rapides Regional Medical Center CEO Vernon Jones. “We are pleased to introduce this new surgery waiting room for our community. The location is more convenient, and we hope the décor, furniture and other comforts will help our surgical patients’ families.”
The new waiting room includes our Surgery Tracker Board, allowing families to follow the process of their loved one’s surgery, from pre-operation to post-anesthesia recovery.
“This is a great addition to the surgical experience at Rapides Regional Medical Center,” said ENT Christian Wold, M.D., Surgery Department Chairperson. “I commend the hospital for their commitment to surgeons, our patients and their families.”
Work on the new waiting room began this past summer. More than $400,000 was spent on the new waiting area and involved moving our Medical Staff Services department.
Rapides Regional Medical Center is the only verified Trauma Center in the region. It has 10 operating rooms, including the region’s only Hybrid OR, two dedicated robotic surgical rooms, dedicated rooms for heart surgery, neurosurgery and orthopedics, a urology suite, 3 endoscopic suites and 11 recovery bays in our Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. Children, youth and adults are treated for a variety of injuries and conditions, from simple to complex procedures to traumatic injuries.
