Imaging services

Imaging exams allow radiologists (imaging specialists) and physicians to view structures and activity within the body. This is vital for diagnosis but also for treatment, to ensure your care plan is working as it should.

Our medical imaging services

We are dedicated to providing greater convenience and clarity when you need diagnostic testing to form or confirm a diagnosis.

Diagnostic tests we offer

In an inpatient and outpatient setting, we perform a wide variety of diagnostic tests, including:

  • Computerized tomography (CT) scan — Used to diagnose injuries and cancers through a series of multi-angled X-rays, which generate cross-sectional, three-dimensional (3D) images of internal organs, bones and tissues
  • Digital X-ray — Uses a very small dose of radiation and digital sensors to produce pictures of the body's internal structures
  • Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) — Measures the risk of osteoporosis by using a very small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the spine and hips
  • Echocardiogram (ECG) — Uses sounds waves to produce images of the heart, which can identify heart disease
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG) — Records the electrical activity of the heart to determine if it's beating in a normal rhythm
  • Electroencephalogram (EEG) — Detects issues with the brain's electrical activity
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan — Produces detailed internal pictures of potential tumors and diseases using a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and computers
  • Mammogram — Uses low-dose X-rays to detect breast cancer in women over 40 and in those with a family history of the disease
  • Nuclear medicine — Uses small amounts of radioactive material, a special camera and a computer to create images from inside the body, helping to identify diseases as early as possible
  • Positron emission tomography (PET) scan — Uses radiotracers to show how your organs and tissues are functioning, helping to detect cancer, heart disease and brain conditions
  • Stress test — Examines the heart's function and efficiency during physical stress
  • Ultrasound — Uses sound waves to produce images of the internal organs and soft tissues, including arterial blockages, blood clots, breast lumps and other potential abnormalities
  • 64-slice PET and CT scan — Combines PET and CT technologies to produce 64 high-resolution anatomical images of the body per rotation

Other diagnostic services

When life is too busy, we make it easy to get the healthcare you need. Many of our outpatient imaging and laboratory procedures are offered at our hospital's Outpatient Plaza, where we accept both scheduled and walk-in appointments.

Our hours are 7:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. All scheduled exams, X-rays and EKGs will be offered during those hours, while our laboratory services are available weekdays from 7:00am to 4:30pm.

For general outpatient information, call (318) 769-3777. To schedule, verify, reschedule or cancel an appointment, call (888) 817-8104.

Laboratory testing

Laboratory tests may include a blood, urine or tissue sample. Once the samples are analyzed in our laboratory, results are sent to your physician, who will tell you if your results fall within optimal ranges.

Acceptable ranges may fluctuate depending on your sex, age, race, current medications and diet. These tests can help your physician evaluate your general health and diagnose specific medical conditions.

Lung cancer screening

If you are at high risk for developing lung cancer, we will perform a low-dose CT scan. You may be considered high-risk if you are between 50 and 80 years old and:

  • Currently smoke or quit within the last 15 years
  • Have a 20-pack-year smoke history
  • Present no symptoms of lung cancer

This outpatient test lasts less than 10 seconds, and is both painless and noninvasive. However, you must have a physician’s order to get it. While your chest is scanned, you are required to hold your breath for at least six seconds.

Check with your primary care physician to see if you qualify for a lung cancer screening. If you do, you may call us at (318) 769-7607 to schedule an appointment. A photo ID is required at check-in.

Pulmonary function tests (PFTs)

PFTs are examinations that show how well your lungs are working. These tests measure the volume, capacity and flow rates in your lungs, and can help your physician diagnose and treat a variety of lung issues.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about diagnostic imaging

We invite you to review our FAQs to learn more about our facilities and medical imaging capabilities.

Information about imaging tests

What does the American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation mean?

As an ACR accredited medical center, our facility has:

  • Appropriate testing equipment, which meets or exceeds quality assurance and safety guidelines
  • Educated and certified personnel who can perform medical imaging, interpret your images and administer your radiation therapy treatments
  • Voluntarily gone through a vigorous review process to ensure we meet nationally accepted standards of care

What does the gold seal mean?

When you see the ACR gold seal, your prescribed imaging test will be performed at a facility that has met the highest level of imaging quality and radiation safety. Obtaining the gold seal means the facility and its personnel have gone through a comprehensive review to earn accreditation status by the largest and oldest imaging accrediting body in the U.S.

What should I know about radiation safety?

Before your imaging procedure, be sure to ask your physician some important questions, such as:

  • Are pediatric and adult tests delivered using the appropriate radiation doses?
  • Are there alternatives that do not use radiation and deliver similar results?
  • How will having the test improve my care?
  • Why is the test needed?
