Teaching Hospital
Learn how we provide hands-on clinical training and education for residents, medical students and nurse anesthesia students in multiple specialties.
Teaching Hospital
Rapides Regional Medical Center is home to five residency programs and hosts virtual classes and clinicals for a nurse anesthetist program, earning RRMC the distinction of being a Teaching Hospital.
A teaching hospital is affiliated with a medical school and teaches medical students, resident physicians and other students in the medical field. The residency programs at RRMC are in family practice, obstetrics and gynecology, oral and maxillofacial surgery and general surgery. Here is more about each of these programs:
LSU Health Shreveport Family Medicine Residency program
The LSU Health Shreveport Family Medicine Residency program is the oldest of the residencies at RRMC, opening in 1997. This three-year program falls under the LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine and features 18 residents, six in each year of the program. It has graduated 148 physicians, with 70 percent remaining in Louisiana to practice medicine.
LSU Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic
Tulane Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic opened in 2015
Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine
Nurse Anesthesia Program
To help meet the growing demand for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Rapides Regional Medical Center has partnered with Northwestern State University’s Nurse Anesthesia Program. Nurses in the program attend classes through live-streaming and then do clinicals in the surgery department.
